Angie Paola

Youth representative - Generation Z

(Roatan. Honduras)

Angie Paola is a young student from Roatán whose dreams reach far beyond the island where she grew up. She is currently a senior at Island Academy, where she studies thanks to a scholarship from the SOL Foundation, an organization that has supported her education since childhood and helped her believe in the power of her own potential.

Through this opportunity, Angie discovered how life-changing it is when someone believes in you before you fully understand your own possibilities. That belief inspired her to dream bigger and to set an ambitious goal early on: to study architecture and real estate in New York City and apply to Columbia University.

Alongside her studies, Angie has already begun building her entrepreneurial path by launching her own online business, where she is learning how to develop the mindset and skills of a future businesswoman.

As a representative of the young generation at TEDxRoatán, Angie shares a message especially for girls growing up in small places or challenging circumstances: where you start does not determine how far you can go. Through education, courage, and belief in oneself, dreams can grow far beyond the horizon.

Her mission is to inspire young people to imagine a future bigger than anything they have been told is realistic.

The talk

Angie Paola – Dreaming Beyond the Island

🌴 A girl from a small island dared to dream beyond the horizon.

In this emotional and inspiring TED-style talk delivered on the Caribbean island of Roatán, Sanji Paola shares her journey from a young girl with big dreams to a young woman determined to study architecture and real estate in the United States.

Growing up on a small island, opportunities sometimes felt limited.
But one scholarship, one act of belief, and one courageous decision changed everything.

💡 This talk is about:
✨ dreaming beyond your circumstances
🎓 education and opportunity
🌎 believing in yourself before you feel ready
🏝️ growing up on an island
💪 courage, resilience, and ambition
👩 young women breaking limitations
🏗️ architecture, creativity, and future vision

One of the most powerful lines from the talk:
“Confidence doesn’t come first. Action does.”

Even after not being accepted to Columbia University, she refused to give up on her vision — because sometimes rejection does not end the dream… it redirects it.

🎤 This heartfelt talk was delivered at the historic first-ever under the theme “Island Mosaic” on April 9, 2026.

This is more than a student story.
It’s a message to every young person from a small place who has ever wondered:
“Can I dream bigger than where I come from?”

The answer is yes.
